Genre: Folk / Indie / Acoustic

In May of 2010, Chicago-based songwriters Gia Margaret and Alain de Courtenay joined creative forces and took to the stage under the moniker, Little Light. All at once reflective, hushed, and intensely spirited, Little Light roams the realm of folk with honest songwriting, compelling instrumentation, and lilting harmony in tow.

Alain de Courtenay writes songs rooted in sparse, unaffected, yet altogether powerful poetry. A 24 year-old Chicago native, Alain has exhausted nearly a decade developing this rare and distinctive writing style, consistently producing music that moves, evokes, and inspires. In 2005, Alain joined classically accomplished violinist, TJ Callanta, to help advance his work. Together, they have since cultivated a repertoire of poignant musical compositions, hoping to deepen each song’s lyrical and emotional essences. Over the past 3 years, Alain has performed at many of Chicago’s reputable music venues including The Abbey Pub, The Double Door, and Navy Pier. He has also been fortunate enough to share the bill with well-established musicians such as Switchback, Katie Todd, and Stephanie Dosen. Most recently, Alain and TJ were asked to open for Indie music sensations DeVotchKa on their Midwest tour, where performances were held at The Vogue in Indianapolis, First Avenue in Minneapolis, and the legendary Vic Theatre back home in Chicago. Other notable venues Alain and TJ have played at include The Whisky A-Go-Go and Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, DePaul University, Indiana University, and Valparaiso University. Currently, Alain is promoting his debut album, "The Pregnant Letter", now available.

After only 2 years of songwriting, Gia Margaret has already established herself as one of Chicago's most talented and experienced young artists. Coupled by a striking clarity of vocal tone, Gia's music is characterized by honest and ruminative lyrics, all at once treading strangely familiar, yet rarely charted territories. Listeners have often reflected upon her effortless capacity to immerse them into her unique personal experiences, providing them not only with something to listen to, but moreover inviting them each to play a part.

Remarkably, Gia has performed across a vast spectrum of notable Chicago venues, having secured dates at The Metro, Schubas, The Double Door, and Subterranean, among others. She also was selected to perform at SXSW in 2010, where she shared the stage with indie icons Horse Feathers and Anais Mitchell. By the onset of 2011, Gia plans to have released a full-length solo album. She is also currently working on a collaborative musical project entitled "Little Light" with Prelude Publishing's own, Alain de Courtenay.
